Battlefield
3 to arrive October 25th
DICE
and Electronic Arts confirmed the release date for Battlefield 3 today during their E3 press conference. Battlefield
3 will arrive on October 25th, which is several weeks ahead of competitor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The new confirmed
release date is about a week earlier than was originally thought, which will give Battlefield 3 the jump on Modern Warfare
3.
In addition to the release date being announced, DICE and EA also confirmed that a beta will start at some
point in September with additional details to be announced. There was talk of an open beta, but we suspect that will be in
addition to the VIP beta pass that purchasers of last year’s Medal of Honor release received.
If there is an open beta we expect that will come after the beta is first released to
VIP beta pass holders.
Modern Warfare 3 will not offer
dedicated servers Whispers over the last couple of
days from the shadows seem to confirm what we already suspected: Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will not be offering dedicated
server support. The multiplayer support will apparently function pretty much the same as what we have already seen in Modern
Warfare 2.
Many rumors were floating around that the MW3 server support would be closer to what we saw in call
of Duty Black Ops, which offers at least some limited capacity dedicated server support. Apparently, this isn’t to be;
and the Infinity Ward crew will not be adopting what Treyarch used in Black Ops.
The question of dedicated server support continues to plague a number of multiplayer FPS game releases. Most recently,
developers at DICE and Kaos Studios both came out in favor of dedicated server support providing a better and more robust
gaming experience. Kaos’s recent release Homefront offered dedicated server support, and DICE has always offered dedicated
server support for the Battlefield franchise and intends to continue this trend going forward. (from
